Less smooth than I hoped. The, uhm, compulsion to fight is also a compulsion to fight the way they want. Throw silly objects and punches. Otherwise, I would have cast right away, no problem.

I did say I wasn't going to let him kill whoever fought him. He had an advantage, in that kind of fight.

But I'm glad that it-- I wasn't sure it was going to work. It was only a theory, when I talked about it with Hugo.

I thought about it before - turn someone into a bird, let them fly off. Assumed it wouldn't work.

It is, yes. We've met a couple of times now.

I was trying to come up with something similar with him before, when I first got the barrier-- but as far as he knew, trying to save both parties was only going to delay the inevitable.

Is Hugo an arcanist? I'd been curious.

Makes sense that you can't help both.

It does, but I still-- I had to know.

[she shakes her head, at that. at least one of them can be helped.]

He uses some kind of magic, I'm pretty sure of that, but he hasn't been himself long enough to ask much about it. I've only seen it happen.

Mm. I had the feeling the first time I met him - the real Hugo. It makes sense of a few things.
