[a long pause.]

Well... The writing itself was interesting, I guess...?

I liked it, too. And it's really made all the better to take all of that talent and literary skill and boil it down to pointing out the gay parts.

[heartlands]

[he snorts.]

Right? Who cares about the plot or the prose, anyways? Overrated.

w0, saturday... 2!

[heartlands]

[a while after the trial concludes, rupert is just wandering around the grounds - he has a lot of restless energy he doesn't quite know what to do with, and he seems pretty frustrated by the look on his face. when he sees caleb:]

...This is ridiculous, isn't it? I mean, that is a huge understatement, but - you get it.

[katzepaw]

It's ridiculous.

[He nods in agreement at that, gritting his jaw a little.]

Nothing was solved by that.

[heartlands]

I mean... I don't like what she did either, no matter why she did it, but - none of this makes any sense. What reason could they have for forcing us to go along with this?

[katzepaw]

No, it still doesn't add up. But I don't know whether she'll tell us anything useful, either. It all feels like a small piece of a larger puzzle.

week 1; friday

[katzepaw]

[He's walking on his way towards the cafeteria, when he runs into Rupert.]

. . . A bad pattern.

[heartlands]

Bad's one word for it... I'd really hoped it would only happen once.

[frowning! very intently. but he glances towards caleb.]

Are you alright?

[katzepaw]

[Yeah. Oof.]

I'm alright. I find myself unsurprised, though maybe that's no good. And you?

[heartlands]

I think most people are probably in your boat, honestly. With the - not being surprised part.

[rubbing at his neck]

But it's just - awful, whether or not it's surprising, right?

w2, friday.

[heartlands]

[well, this is awful. after the announcement, rupert's walking around outside (still fairly slowly) when he comes upon caleb. after he sees him, though:]

...How's your throat?

[katzepaw]

[It's extremely awful. Just shrugging his shoulders, touching his hand to his throat which is covered by a new fuzzy scarf.]

Better. [. . .] I never did thank you, did I?

[heartlands]

Oh... [he rubs at the back of his neck.] You don't really have to. I mean - before we got pushed onto that stage, I asked Dimitri to fight, so... I just didn't really expect it to get that intense, I guess.

[katzepaw]

I don't blame you for that.

[He shrugs a little.]

If I'd been in a state to believe even a little. . . there's very little I wouldn't do for my friend, either. As it is, I decided to fight because I couldn't tell Byleth not to care.

But your decision, uhm, it changed things in there. I'm grateful.

week 2; saturday

[Well, fuck. He will go find Rupert in detention after, then. Just. Frowning a lot.]

[heartlands]

[he looks up when caleb enters, and while he definitely doesn't seem cheerful, it doesn't look like he's been crying or anything.]

[katzepaw]

Hello. Do you mind if I sit? You may borrow my cat, if you like.

week 6; sunday

[katzepaw]

[Wow, guess who is a Winter now. He's hanging out in the outdoor glamping area just outside the dorm, if Rupert wants to chat.]

[heartlands]

[he does! he sounds lightly curious when he wanders out and takes a seat next to him.]

So you switched, huh?

[katzepaw]

. . . After Mollymauk died. Wanted to be closer to Beauregard. Though the truth is, I was considering going back. After Manwol died, I didn't want - they needed someone there to look after them.

week 7; saturday

[katzepaw]

[After trial, he is somewhere in the void. He looks tired, but he will give Rupert a small smile.]

[he gives him a little wave! he also seems tired, but the relief in his voice when he speaks is genuine.]

I think I am really glad this is over. What about you?

I am. . . beginning to process that it may actually be over, and it ended that way.
