Beyond that, we died several times, as well. Each time, we "woke up" at a point slightly before our deaths so we could continue toward our objective - much like a video game as well, I've been told. It seems who or whatever brought us there was also capable of altering one's memory as they saw fit.

It was as though I had an entire separate life there... I still remember it even now, though I was able to recall my proper memories the next time I died.
